Industrial hot melt adhesives are used in applications formulated for specific purposes in each industry. There are all kinds of dispensing machines, glue sticks and hot melt glue particles, all of which are designed for specific applications. There are differences among various hot melt adhesives in terms of color, viscosity, heating temperature, raw materials and curing time.

Hot melt adhesives are defined as adhesives that melt and flow when heated and solidify when cooled to provide strong adhesion. Depending on the application and the material to be bonded, they are applied in a molten state within the temperature range of 120 °C to 180 °C. Hot melt adhesives are multi-polymer adhesives that allow for the adjustment of certain properties by mixing two or more polymers and additives.

Why use hot melt adhesive instead of solvent-based adhesive? There are several advantages.

Longer shelf life

can be handled easily and usually no special preventive measures are required (handling considerations are very important).

No thickness loss during curing (solvent-based adhesives lose 50-70% of the layer thickness)

Industrial applications of hot melt adhesives:

Carton sealing

Tag Application

Spine binding

Woodworking lamination application

Paper products

Fixing electronic components and wires

Assembly and sealing of corrugated cartons

Automobile

Textiles (h6)

Footwear

Electronic products

Food and Beverages

Some hot melt adhesives may come in various shapes, sizes and formulations. Some are suitable for substrates that are difficult to bond, such as glass and metal. These require high temperatures to function properly. For instance, the small wick candles you see in glass containers at Christmas might be made of hot melt adhesive between glass and metal. The wick is connected to the zinc plate at the bottom of the container. The required hot melt adhesive can quickly and effectively fix the wick to the bottom of the glass through a metal plate, so that the hot candle wax can be poured into the container. The wick must not move. For specific applications, a certain time window is required, neither too long nor too short.
