The development trend of the printing industry in 2024

The business trend of the printing industry this year is based on the observed data from the National Bureau of Statistics on large-scale enterprises (with an annual operating income of over 20 million yuan). There are nearly 7,000 large-scale enterprises in the printing industry. Compared with the 100,000 enterprises in the entire industry, their revenue accounts for nearly half of the total revenue of the entire industry.

1. Industrial added value

2. Operating Income and total profit

Figure 2 shows that since the beginning of this year, the revenue growth rate and total profit growth rate of large-scale printing enterprises have both been in the positive growth range. As of the end of August, the revenue growth rate was 3.1% and the profit growth rate was 13.4%. Judging from the changing trend, the two indicators have also been in a downward growth range from the beginning of the year to now.

3. Benefit indicators

Operating income profit margin, please refer to the red line (see Figure 3). We can observe two characteristics. First, it has basically maintained an upward trend since the beginning of this year, reaching 5.18% by the end of August. Secondly, compared with the same period last year, the data for each month this year has risen, reaching a new level, indicating that the performance of large-scale printing enterprises has improved compared to last year. Correspondingly, the cost per 100 yuan of operating income in the printing industry has declined slightly since the beginning of the year. Compared with the same period last year, the cost pressure on printing enterprises has also slightly eased.

4. Revenue versus Export comparison

Figure 4 conducts a comparative analysis of operating income and export delivery value. Look, the trend is quite clear. Last year, the growth rate of export delivery value (the red line) has been consistently below that of revenue (the blue line). However, this year the situation has reversed. The growth rate of export delivery value has shown a relatively good upward trend, indicating that the export market this year is better than the domestic market.

5. Semi-annual reports of listed companies

We compared the performance of 43 listed companies in the printing industry in the first half of this year. These listed companies are mainly printing enterprises, including a small number of equipment and consumables suppliers. As a public company, the data of listed companies is relatively more accurate. A total of 43 listed companies achieved operating income in the first half of the year, a year-on-year decrease of 0.02%. The net profit attributable to the parent company was achieved, increasing by 1.42% year-on-year. When comparing this set of data with that of large-scale printing enterprises, the revenue of large-scale printing enterprises in the first half of the year increased by 3.5% year-on-year. The total profit was achieved, increasing by 16.1% year-on-year. It can be seen that although the data of 43 listed companies is not as high as that of large-scale enterprises, the trends shown by the two sets of data are consistent: the operation and production of the printing industry are steadily recovering, and the total scale of the industry remains basically stable.

Based on the above data, we can have a general understanding of the overall operation of the printing industry this year.
