Why do hot melt adhesive particles produce smoke during the heating process?

Why do hot melt adhesive particles emit a lot of smoke during the heating process? When using hot melt adhesive, its viscosity can only be affected by heating. The hot melt adhesive equipment used in industry cannot do without a heating system. Sometimes, there may be a large amount of abnormal smoking during the heating process. Why can operators ask? Although we know this is a bad phenomenon, we don’t know how to solve it. In fact, this issue is summarized by the industry. There are roughly three types of problems:

Hot melt adhesive granules

1,Factors influencing human behavior

A typical hot melt glue machine has a glue box that is heated by a heating plate. When the amount of hot melt adhesive in the box is not less than 1/3, it needs to be added. If the operator does not heat the glue, the amount of glue inside the box will gradually decrease below the surface of the heating plate. In this way, during the continuous heating process, the heating plate will come into contact with the air, and the smoke emitted from the glue box will cause severe carbonization of the glue, affecting its use. Therefore, operators should pay attention to the amount of glue in the box during equipment operation and add new glue to keep the glue surface submerged in the heating plate;

Another human factor is that the temperature applied during the application of the hot melt adhesive particles is too high. It is believed that increasing the temperature can accelerate the melting of the adhesive and improve its performance. In fact, doing so would backfire because hot melt adhesive has a reasonable temperature range during use, and overheating can easily lead to carbonization and smoking. Therefore, when setting the device temperature, it is necessary to follow the parameter range of the hot melt adhesive manufacturer.

2. Heating system control equipment loses control

When using hot melt adhesive granules, the equipment has already reached the working temperature specified by the hot melt adhesive manufacturer, but there is still smoke present. This may be due to a mismatch between the heating temperature of the device and the settings. Some devices are equipped with temperature sensors to achieve a constant temperature effect. When the device malfunctions or malfunctions, it will continue to generate heat and smoke when the temperature passes. This phenomenon requires major repairs and replacement of parts for the car here.

3、 The quality of hot melt adhesive is unstable

If the selected hot melt adhesive has poor thermal stability, it is prone to carbonization and decomposition at normal operating temperatures. In this situation, it is necessary to contact the manufacturer in a timely manner and replace the natural quality of the hot melt adhesive.
