When purchasing hot melt adhesive, many customers are confused by the model: “What is the difference between 292 and 296?” “Why can 391 be spread evenly?” “What kind of adhesive is 39B? These numbers are not randomly assigned serial numbers, but are produced by the manufacturerUsage segment+product positioningThe coded code. The naming rules of different manufacturers are not the same. This article takes the actual models sold by Sunlife (Sunlife) as an example to explain how to read this set of numbers and what to look for when selecting.

The numbers in the hot melt adhesive model,It does not represent the temperature resistance or viscosity——Those need to refer to the detection parameters in the technical documentation. The model is essentially the manufacturer’sProduct segment codeTaking the Sunlife real model table as an example: the first two digits basically correspond to the paper/scene system, and the following digits or letters correspond to the division of labor or specialized positioning of the back glue/edge glue.
| Model segment | Corresponding scene | Representative model and positioning |
|---|---|---|
| 39 paragraphs | Copperplate paper books and magazines (picture books, textbook covers) | 396 (with filler backing adhesive), 397 (without filler backing adhesive), 398 (edge adhesive) |
| 391 | Spread books and periodicals evenly | High end flat adhesive, can be spread out 180 °, suitable for business laptops, etc |
| 393 / 395 | Picture and Text Store | 393 mid-range main force, 395 high-end low temperature resistance |
| 39B / 399 | Pearl cotton (EPE) | 39B mature main force, 399 economic type |
| 39D | Exam papers/receipts | Quick drying and easy to tear |
Note: The model names vary from factory to factory. The above is the segmentation rule of Sunlife/Sunlife system, and the specific information provided with the goods shall prevail.
Q: What is the difference between 292 and 296?
Belonging to the adhesive section of bound paper books and magazines, the difference lies in positioning and formula: 292 is more economical, meeting conventional fastness requirements; 295/296 is the main cost-effective segment, suitable for a wider range of paper and vehicle speeds. Which one to choose depends on your paper and production line requirements,It’s not ‘bigger numbers are better’The specific parameters are subject to the model technical data.
Q: Why can 391 be evenly distributed?
Flattening comes from the flexibility design of the formula (positioned as high-end flat adhesive), not just “flat with a number of 9”. Books and periodicals that require a 180 degree open layout (such as business notebooks and open reading books) must be considered before 391, and must be verified with a sample first.
Q: What kind of glue is 39B?
The main model for bonding pearl cotton (EPE) foam material. Pearl cotton glue and book glue have different application systems and usage temperatures (book glue is about 160-180 ℃, pearl cotton glue tank is 140-160 ℃),Do not mix two types of adhesives。
Q: Why do we need to separate the models of backing glue and edge glue?
The back glue (book back) tube is firmly formed with the book back, and the edge glue (book mouth side) tube is positioned and assisted with fastness. The function, formula, and opening time design are different, so 298/398/29B are separately made with edge glue models (how to match edge glue back glue, see separate article).
Numbers are just codes, selection is based on“Scene → Paper → Vehicle Speed → ModelHere: First confirm whether it is book binding, graphics, packaging, or pearl cotton, and then match the appropriate model according to the paper (copperplate paper/adhesive paper/double adhesive paper/thin paper) and vehicle speed – how to choose different paper, see separate article. When there are multiple models in the same scene, the parameters and sample verification results in the accompanying “Instructions/Process Card” should be used to determine, without guessing based on the size of the numbers.
Sunlife (Sunlife) hot melt adhesive is manufactured by Foshan Jucai Base, specializing in adhesive for book and magazine binding. The models cover real sales segments such as 292/295/296/298, 396/397/398, 391, 393/395, 39B/399, 39D, etc. Instructions and process cards are provided with the goods. When the customer reports that the model cannot be obtained on time, they should inform the salesperson of the paper, vehicle speed, and book thickness, provide direction according to the real model table, and then verify with a small sample – this is the standard process supported by Sunlife’s daily selection.
Explanation: The model positioning in this article is based on Sunlife training materials and the on sale model list; The specific performance parameters of each model shall be subject to official technical data. In case of performance doubts, please refer to the actual test sample.
Photo books (album books) often use thick copperplate paper and pearlescent paper, which have high weight, smooth surface, and high requirements for initial adhesion and flexibility of the adhesive. Direct conclusion: Prioritize the transparent high initial adhesion EVA system and select the softening point according to the thickness of the book core. Selection List Procurement […]
Why is the transparency of the adhesive layer important? The adhesive layer of books and magazines is usually covered by the spine cover, and transparency is not important in most scenes. However, in some special binding designs, the adhesive layer may be exposed and visible, such as bare spine binding, transparent covers, display grade samples, […]
In the packaging industry belt of Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta, hot melt adhesive is the core material for bonding products such as cardboard boxes, color boxes, and express bags. The performance requirements for hot melt adhesive vary significantly in different packaging scenarios. Choosing the right adhesive type and factory can not only reduce […]
The desk calendar is a hard demand for graphic and text fast printing stores during the peak season every year. The binding methods are divided into circle binding, glue binding, and loose leaf binding, with significant differences in corresponding glue particles. We conducted a horizontal evaluation of three mainstream adhesive particles, Sunlife Hot Melt Adhesive, […]
