Carton sealant is an essential item in our daily lives. There are many types of cardboard box sealing adhesive. Some people want to choose sealant with good adhesion, so they always choose very thick sealant, but in reality, there is no thicker or stickier sealant. Sealing glue is only thicker and more viscous within the corresponding range, but in reality, it will not increase viscosity if it is too thick. The thicker the adhesive layer within the corresponding range, the better the contact between the sealant and the surface of the object, the larger the contact area, and the stronger the natural adhesion.

However, in reality, beyond the corresponding thickness range, although the thickness increases, the contact area of the surrounding structure does not actually increase, so the viscosity tends to stabilize. So the thicker the sealant, the better. It depends on the specific situation, so that you can buy the kind you want.
1. Method for determining the viscosity of carton sealing
(1) Initial viscosity: refers to the original adhesive strength of the test sealant to the adhered object. The common method is to use a national standard steel ball to naturally roll down on the sealant tilted at a 45 degree angle, and then lift the steel balls one by one. The size of the ball, the larger the steel ball that can adhere, the higher the initial viscosity.
(2) Viscosity: The ability of sealant to maintain its stickiness after being completely adhered to an object. The general testing standard is to apply a sealing adhesive of specified strength to the surface of two steel plates, followed by one steel plate. Hang it on the tester and then hang a 1kg weight to see how long the two steel plates can hold together without separating.
(3) Peel force test: Use standard width sealant to stick a specific steel plate, and then use a robotic arm to tear off the sealant from the steel plate. The stability of the robotic arm reflects the magnitude of the peel force.
2. Tips for extending the service life of carton sealant
(1) The sealing glue needs to be unfolded into rolls for storage and cannot be folded. If stored for a long time, it needs to be flipped once every quarter, and the sealant should be stored in the warehouse to avoid direct sunlight and rain.
(2) The type and specifications of sealant should be scientifically and reasonably selected according to the needs of use.
(3) The stable operation of the sealant is directly related to its cleanliness. Foreign chemicals can interfere with the eccentricity of the sealant. If damage to the carton sealant is found during use, the cause should be investigated. And then promptly repair it.
(4) Oxygen, because the oxygen content in the air accounts for 21%, has the property of accelerating the oxidation of chemical substances, and its activity is very strong, causing rapid oxidation of the sealant, which in turn causes the sealant to become “old”. But when we apply the sealant, we should try our best not to let it come out. Of course, for breathable sealants, this factor is unavoidable.
(5) Ultraviolet radiation (too much sunlight), ultraviolet radiation has high temperature characteristics and can quickly decompose viscous chemicals. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause the sealant to decompose and age. This depends on the location where the sealant is used, as it can prevent the sealant from being exposed to sunlight.
(6) Plasticizers have the basic function of softening plastics, and most plastic products contain plasticizers. Over time, the proportion of plasticizers in chemical substances will continue to increase, leading to the emergence of plasticizers. Aging, etc. Under the long-term interference of various factors mentioned above, the sealing adhesive will deteriorate, soften, solidify, and lose its stickiness.
When manufacturers have to deal with coke, valuable production time is wasted. Therefore, it is important to understand the reasons for the carbonization of EVA hot melt adhesive and how to prevent it as much as possible. Hot melt adhesive carbonizes in the sink Charcoal is composed of combustion particles produced by the thermal degradation […]
Hot melt adhesive granulesCan PET film be adhered? Yes, but it depends on the particle type and usage method. PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film has low surface energy and weak polarity, and ordinary EVA hot melt adhesive particles are prone to “false adhesion” and easy to peel off when directly adhered. To firmly adhere PET, a […]
hot melt adhesiveWhen the glue pot has burnt particles, uneven glue dispensing, or impurities in the glue line, simply replacing the glue may not solve the problem. This article sorts out the troubleshooting sequence according to “glue pot status, temperature setting, shutdown habits, and glue supply path” to help reduce downtime and material waste in […]
Lock wire glue=use glue casually? wrong! Many printing factories believe that books have already been sewn in,hot melt adhesive pelletsJust an auxiliary, just use cheap glue casually. This idea is completely wrong. The requirements for glue in the double process of wire locking and glue installation are actually more special. Please avoid the following three […]
