What mistakes should be avoided when using hot melt adhesive

2022-05-22    Views: 3

Despite the development of the packaging industry and the increase in various economic options for packaging sealing, hot melt adhesive remains the main packaging material used by many packaging enterprises. Due to the wide variety of hot melt adhesives available nowadays, improper use of hot melt adhesives may lead to unpleasant results for customers.

1. Do not consider other adhesive options.

Depending on the work to be done, there may be better options than hot melt adhesive. Compared with adhesive tape, hot melt packaging can save time. In fact, using hot melt adhesive for packaging can save the time spent packaging each item. This makes hot melt adhesive more economical. However, considering that using hot melt adhesive for packaging also requires less product than using tape for packaging, the cost savings are even greater.

2. Use the wrong place

Hot melt adhesive is not a panacea, although other bonding products, such as packaging tape, are often used in jobs where it has not been developed at all. Anyone who has ever tried to seal a box with restraint tape knows the importance of having the right tape for this job.

Hot melt adhesive cannot adhere correctly to surfaces coated with dirt, dust or oil layers. So much so that the hot melt adhesive cannot form an appropriate seal. Before using hot melt adhesive, please ensure that the surface to be used is clean and dry so that the hot melt adhesive can seal firmly.

4. Using expired hot melt adhesive

It’s a bad idea to handle any work with expired, cheap or poor-quality materials, and packaging projects are no exception. Of course, you don’t want to send poorly packaged products to customers, as the products may be damaged or lost as a result. Hot melt adhesive should be properly stored and kept away from direct sunlight.

5. Selecting the wrong hot melt adhesive

The viscosity level of hot melt adhesive refers to the speed at which it can form a bond with the surface. In some cases, such as laying carpets, high adhesiveness is necessary. However, where hot melt adhesive must be removed, high-viscosity hot melt adhesive will irreversibly damage the application surface and leave frustrating, hard-to-remove residual marks on the glass surface.

6. Do not consider the final effect

For companies that wish to maintain a professional and clean appearance of their packaging, do not use a large amount of messy and wrinkled packaging tape, as this may damage the company’s image. Double packaging is used to enhance security, but not only does it look bad, but it is also troublesome for customers to try to open it. Therefore, using hot melt adhesive for packaging bonding not only enhances the adhesive force but also makes it more attractive.
