Acrylic (PMMA) has extremely low surface energy and is widely recognized as a difficult to stick material. But by selecting the right type of hot melt adhesive particles and combining them with the correct surface treatment, it is entirely possible to achieve a firm bonding. Sunlife hot melt adhesive particles are recommended in two directions: ① high initial adhesion APAO based models (good wetting properties for low surface energy materials), used in conjunction with primer; ② Polyamide (PA) based models (where polar groups form chemical bonds with acrylic) do not require a primer but are relatively expensive.
The recommended coating temperature is 170-180 ° C. The bonding should be completed within 10 seconds after coating, and the pressure should be maintained at 0.3-0.5MPa for 15 seconds. After 24 hours of curing, it reaches 90% of the final strength.
Q: Is it possible to stick directly without surface treatment?
A: No way. The peel strength without treatment is only 30-40% of that after treatment, and the adhesive will peel off after a few days. Choose at least one of primer or polishing.
Q: How much tensile force can acrylic panels withstand after bonding?
A: After being bonded with primer and PAPO based hot melt adhesive particles, the tensile shear strength can reach 1.5-2.0 MPa, which meets the requirements of most display racks and light box applications.
