The selection of adhesive for book and magazine binding is not about “the stickier the better”, but about finding a balance between the penetration of the book back, the tactile sensation of flipping pages, and the inability to drop pages. Check each of the following 6 parameters before placing an order to avoid 80% returns.

| parameter | Suggestions for book and magazine binding | Why is it important |
|---|---|---|
| softening point | 85–95℃ | Too low can cause the back of the book to become soft, and too high can make it difficult to use the computer |
| Melting viscosity (180 ℃) | 2000–4000 mPa·s | Determine the ability to penetrate paper fibers |
| Opening hours | 8-15 seconds | Cover pressing window, too fast to catch up |
| Color | Light yellow/transparent | The back of the book is beautiful and does not turn yellow |
| odor | low odor | Workshop and Reader Experience |
| ash content | The lower the better. | High ash content, easy to block gun carbonization |
After receiving the sample, make a sample book first: let it dry for 24 hours and then perform a “page drop test” – randomly pull a few pages, and if they break instead of come off, it indicates that the bonding is sufficient; Check if the back of the book cracks after flipping it 50 times. Both items have passed, and then a small batch trial production will be conducted.
Q: Is it guaranteed that the page won’t drop just because it’s labeled as “high viscosity”?
Answer: Not necessarily. If high viscosity is accompanied by high viscosity, it will not seep into the paper, and the surface will stick and the inside will be loose. Consider the viscosity and opening time comprehensively.
Q: Do I need to change the adhesive when using copperplate paper for the inner pages and film for the outer cover of the same book?
Answer: For laminated covers, it is necessary to use models that have adhesion to the film. Ordinary book and magazine adhesives may not be able to firmly adhere to the film surface. Please specify the material when placing an order.
Q: How to choose a worry free option for frequent glue changes in a small printing factory?
Answer: Choose a universal book EVA series to cover most orders. Suppliers are not changed when changing orders, and the parameter table is provided with the goods for easy reconciliation.
Remember: When selecting adhesive for book and magazine packaging, look for six factors: softening point, viscosity, opening time, color, odor, and ash content. Don’t just focus on the word “high viscosity”.
Let me start with a true story that I’ve been remembering for eight years. In the winter of 2016, a printing factory owner called me at 11 a.m. and started off by saying, “Brother Shu, something big has happened. The 50,000 textbooks I just bound have their adhesive ridges broken on the first page. The […]
Direct conclusion: EVA hot melt adhesive particles have fast curing, high initial adhesion, and affordable price, making them the main force for book binding and carton sealing; APAO hot melt adhesive particles have a long opening time, wide temperature resistance range, and good flexibility, making them more suitable for large-area composite and weather resistant applications. […]
Direct answer: Glue overflow dirtying the book pages is essentially due to at least one of the four variables, “glue amount, temperature, pressure, and rhythm,” exceeding the appropriate range. The three most common reasons are excessive glue application, high glue temperature leading to low viscosity, and excessive clamping pressure squeezing glue from the spine to […]
Maintaining consistency is crucial for binding applications. – Managing processes and materials can lead to the best results. In terms of binding materials, manufacturers are seeking solutions that feature high durability, temperature and moisture resistance, as well as strong adhesion to various substrates. The formula of the binding hot melt adhesive product portfolio exceeds the […]
