How to solve the problem of EVA hot melt adhesive becoming brittle in winter and cracking in summer? Summer is coming soon, and many new factory owners may not have encountered this problem before. There are also some who have encountered similar problems, but they were solved by our factory arranging technical personnel to help debug the equipment. For some friends, various conditions may limit them, and they may not know how to solve such problems temporarily. Today, they can take a good look at this content.

Actually, dealing with this matter is not as complicated as imagined. It is related to temperature, and handling it well basically solves the problem.

EVA hot melt adhesive is ultimately thermoplastic. What is thermoplasticity? It’s hard when it’s cold, and soft when it’s hot. This is its nature, not a quality issue with anyone’s adhesive. All EVA hot melt adhesives in the market have this situation, not a quality issue with the adhesive. Today, I will talk to you about two situations of glue

1、 In winter, it’s brittle and easily breakable. What should I do?

For this issue, many people may first suspect the problem with the glue, but don’t rush to change the glue for now. We need to check the temperature of the glue tank on the production line. Do we still use the same set of parameters as in summer in winter? Perhaps it is due to the discrepancy between the actual temperature on the device and the temperature on the instrument

Conventional operation: Increase the temperature of the glue tank by 5-10 degrees. If the glue is thoroughly melted and the fluidity is improved, it will not be so brittle. If there are still problems, it is necessary to check whether the problems on the equipment and instruments are consistent with the actual measured temperature. If they are different, then the equipment needs to be debugged before operation.

If the temperature control still doesn’t work: you may need to ask us to change the glue, or send a patch of hot melt adhesive suitable for winter use first. The remaining glue can be kept for use in warm weather or summer.

2、 What should I do if I glue it in summer and it feels like it’s not sticking at all?

It’s all the same situation, first look at the operation, then look at the glue.

Common problem: Is it because it’s hot and the machine is running fast, and the glue hasn’t dried completely before it’s pressurized? Or is the adhesive coating too thin? We just need to check the entire process once to get a rough idea of where the problem lies.

If there are basically no problems with all the above operations, then we need to use the high-temperature resistant version. We have achieved a softening point of over 100 degrees, so even if your cardboard box or other products are stored overnight in a sun exposed truck, they will not be taken away. During the procurement process, it is important to inform your production factory of the current environment and temperature, so that we can better recommend what kind of adhesive to use.

There is another mistake that everyone likes to make, whether it’s luck or carelessness, to mix the half bag of glue used in winter with the glue used in summer. This is completely unfeasible. When using glue, we must strictly follow the requirements we provide in order to achieve the best results.

Anyway, don’t do it like this, don’t mess around. Because the characteristics of each type of adhesive are different, mixing them in the same environment will definitely cause problems, and achieving good results will definitely be affected, such as wire drawing, machine blockage, weak adhesion, and so on.

No matter when, we must strictly follow the user manual and never slack off or use it improperly. If you are unsure which type of hot melt adhesive to use, you can take a video of your production line and send it to us for a look. I will have the factory technician help you take a look. It’s much more convenient than trying on your own to avoid delaying your schedule and causing unnecessary cost increases!
