How to choose environmentally friendly hot melt adhesive? At present, the functions and applications of hot melt adhesive have received widespread attention, but the environmental issues of hot melt adhesive are often overlooked. Has environmental protection become a bottleneck for the further development of adhesives? Solving the problem of environmental pollution has become an urgent task nowadays.
Hot melt adhesive is mainly made of EVA, rubber, polyolefin, polyamide and other materials, supplemented by high molecular weight materials such as tackifiers and softeners. Solvent free and non-volatile. Compared to solvent based, oil-based, and water-based adhesives, hot melt adhesive is more environmentally friendly.
However, the layers in environmentally friendly hot melt adhesive are different. From the environmental requirements of the European Union and the United States, many hot melt adhesives currently on the market do not meet the standards. Many hot melt adhesive companies, in order to reduce costs, extensively use environmentally unfriendly and inexpensive materials, and classify their produced hot melt adhesives as non environmentally friendly products.
How can we determine if the hot melt adhesive we purchase is environmentally friendly? At present, international environmental protection hot melt adhesive testing projects include ROSH standards, formaldehyde testing, determination of 18 types of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, halogen fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine content, determination of total octane yellow compounds (PFOS) content, determination of nonylphenol formaldehyde polyvinyl chloride ether (NDEOS) content, and REACH84 testing. Medical hot melt adhesive also undergoes skin insensitivity testing.
In the production process of books and periodicals, the binding strength is an important factor determining their durability and user experience. If a book is not firmly bound, there may be phenomena such as page dropping and glue peeling during the reading process, which seriously affects the reader’s reading experience. Therefore, conducting a book binding […]
Although EVA hot melt adhesive is an excellent solution for many industrial applications, it requires careful control of the high temperature during the process to avoid smoke problems. When hot melt adhesives are heated, they inevitably release some smoke. That is the odor detected while working near the hot melt nozzle. Although some smoke is […]
EVA hot melt adhesive is different from regular cold melt adhesive. According to its characteristics, the following points must be mastered and noted during use: 1、 Understand and master the models and technical performance (including technical parameters) of each EVA hot melt adhesive. Different types of hot melt adhesives have different opening and curing times. […]
Under standardized storage, the shelf life of EVA hot melt adhesive granules is usually 12-24 months; Polyolefin and other systems can last longer. But ‘shelf life’ does not mean ‘just leave it at will’, the environment determines the actual usable time. Key factors affecting shelf life Reference for shelf life of different systems system Reference […]
