What issues should be considered when using EVA hot melt adhesive? Although there are various types of hot melt adhesives, there are five key factors that can affect their performance. Consider these items before applying hot melt adhesive to ensure ideal performance:
Temperature
When using EVA hot melt adhesive, ensure that it can fully wet the substrate. This will enable appropriate adhesion between the two materials.
To achieve this, set the temperature of the hot melt tank to be hot enough to reduce the viscosity of the adhesive during application. This will help the adhesive flow correctly to bond the substrate before it cools down.
Coating thickness
The adhesive thickness refers to the amount of adhesive applied to the product. Although it varies depending on the application method, it always affects the cooling rate of the adhesive. Understand the required coating thickness to ensure the cooling rate of hot melt adhesive is achieved.
Pressurization
When two substrates are bonded together, they are subjected to compression or pressure. Be careful to apply appropriate compression to the substrate to achieve ideal adhesion without affecting its properties.
Opening hours
It is necessary to consider the opening time of the adhesive during the application process. The opening time of adhesive refers to the length of time required to achieve effective bonding.
The factors that affect opening hours include:
Temperature
Matrix
Glue application amount
Base material
The substrate being bonded together. Their quality and chemical composition directly affect adhesive bonding. For example, high textured substrates allow for more mechanical adhesion, while high surface energy substrates aid in wetting.
Understanding the substrate before using adhesive will help determine:
What type of adhesive should be used
How much glue should be applied
Although these five tips can help you understand what to consider when applying EVA hot melt adhesive, choosing the right method is still a challenge.
1. Polymer Matrix The main components of EVA hot melt adhesive play a crucial role in its performance. Main types: ethylene and its copolymers, polyolefins, polyesters, polyurethanes, polyamides, styrene and its block copolymers, and other polymers. The impact on the properties of hot melt adhesive: adhesive strength, melt index, softening point, viscosity, flexibility, curing speed, […]
What are the environmentally friendly adhesives? Adhesive is any substance that binds two objects together – essentially glue. The objects adhered together by our adhesive are considered as “substrates”. Have you ever made a grilled cheese sandwich? Once melted and cooled, cheese can be considered as a binder that binds two slices of bread (substrate) […]
EVA hot melt adhesive, which is brittle in winter and prone to cracking in summer, belongs to the normal characteristics of thermoplastic materials and is not a product quality issue. It is strongly recommended to prioritize adjusting equipment temperature and production processes, and replace seasonal adhesive when the environment is extreme. At the same time, […]
Direct answer: The width of the side glue for regular 16 open books and magazines is 4-6mm, for 32 open books it is 3-5mm, and for large 16 open or thick books (book spine exceeding 20mm) it can be relaxed to 6-8mm. The width of the side glue should be “able to effectively grasp the […]
