Practical calculation of hot melt adhesive particle usage for sealing express cardboard boxes: producing 500000 boxes per month saved 80000 adhesive fees in one year

Did you spend tens of thousands of yuan on glue every year?

A express packaging factory in Hangzhou produces 500000 corrugated cardboard boxes per month and has been relying on experience to use themhot melt adhesive pelletsSeal the box with approximately 3 grams of glue per box. After switching to Sunlife hot melt adhesive granules, the technical team helped them calculate the exact amount and found that 2 grams per box was enough – saving about 80000 yuan in adhesive costs per year.

Sealing and gluing usually use two glue lines (box cover+box bottom), with each glue line length=box width and a glue line diameter of about 1.5mm. Taking a standard express box 40cm × 30cm × 20cm as an example:

  • Each adhesive line is 30cm long, with a diameter of 1.5mm and a volume of approximately 0.53cm ³
  • The volume of two adhesive lines is approximately 1.06cm ³, and the density of hot melt adhesive is about 0.95g/cm ³
  • The amount of glue used in a single box is approximately 1.0g, plus a loss of about 1.2-1.5g

Originally, 3g/box was a serious overspray, and the glue line was too thick, which resulted in glue overflow and unsightly appearance. After adjusting the spacing between the glue heads and the glue dispensing speed, the adhesive strength of 2g/box fully meets the standard.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How to determine if the amount of sealing glue is sufficient?

A: Flipping the cardboard box and vigorously shaking it until the glue line does not open is considered qualified. A more scientific approach is to conduct a drop test (1.2m free fall without opening the box).

Q: What is the difference in the amount of glue used between small and large boxes?

A: Directly proportional to the length of the glue line. The small box (20cm wide) weighs about 0.7g/piece, while the large box (60cm wide) weighs about 2.1g/piece. Calculating based on actual dimensions is more accurate than estimating.
