It is a solid particle at room temperature, free of organic solvents, with a flash point generally above 250 ℃. It is neither flammable nor explosive, and is not listed according to GB 12268 “List of Dangerous Goods” and the “United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods”. Therefore, highways, railways, and sea transportation can all be carried as ordinary goods without the need for dangerous goods certificates or declaration of dangerous goods on the waybill.

Most misunderstandings come from three places. The word ‘hot melt’ evokes associations with high temperatures and open flames; Secondly, procurement personnel have seen that solvent based adhesives are managed as hazardous chemicals, so they classify all adhesives as one category; Thirdly, in order to avoid liability, some freight forwarders are required to provide a dangerous goods appraisal certificate when encountering the word “glue”. In fact, the risk of solvent based adhesives comes from volatile solvents such as toluene and ethyl acetate, while hot melt adhesive particles are 100% solid content bulk adhesives, and there are no solvents in the formula. The risk levels of the two are completely different.
Although it is not classified as dangerous goods, it will still get stuck during the process. Although hot melt adhesive particles are not dangerous goods, they still belong to materials that are sensitive to moisture, sunlight, and high temperatures. It is recommended to control the temperature in the warehouse below 35 ℃, store them off the ground and walls, and avoid direct sunlight and rain; After the arrival of summer containers, they should be spread and cooled down before being stored to reduce clumping. After opening, the bag opening should be tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption and the formation of bubbles and white spots during the melt adhesive process.
Q: Can I send hot melt adhesive particle samples by express delivery?
Answer: Sure. As a non hazardous general cargo, normal delivery is sufficient. It is recommended to attach an MSDS with the sample to avoid misjudgment and rejection by the branch due to the word “glue”.
Q: Should non hazardous identification reports be made for every batch?
Answer: No need. The identification report of the same brand and formula can be reused within the validity period, and only needs to be reissued after changing the brand or adjusting the formula.
