Although EVA hot melt adhesive is an excellent solution for many industrial applications, it requires careful control of the high temperature during the process to avoid smoke problems. When hot melt adhesives are heated, they inevitably release some smoke. That is the odor detected while working near the hot melt nozzle. Although some smoke is normal, excessive smoke indicates a problem with your process and requires attention.

Our team has seen examples of hot melt adhesive smoking and provided some tips on how to make adjustments to reduce the amount of smoke.

To prevent hot melt adhesive from smoking, please check your various hot melt adhesive process parameters:
Temperature:The temperature of the hot melt gun or glue coating equipment is crucial. When it is too low, the adhesive cannot melt and flow properly. Too hot, the adhesive will become too thin and release unpleasant and irritating smoke. In some cases, burnt adhesive can cause the final glue to change color and may also lead to carbonization. Adjust the temperature settings based on the manufacturer’s specifications for the hot melt equipment and the temperature recommendations for the specific adhesive you are using.
Coating equipmentCleanliness of work area:Adhesive residues near coating equipment, coating heads, and work areas can cause adhesive problems and smoke.. Burning and dried adhesives are more prone to smoking than fresh, unmelted hot melt adhesives. The accumulation of used dry adhesive on the application equipment is a common source of smoke.
InSunlife Hot Melt Adhesive, we can help you understand the reason why your hot melt adhesive dispenser is smoking. Always ensure that you follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for your adhesive equipment, modules, and hoses, as well as the hot melt adhesive you use.
EVA hot melt adhesive is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, so make full use of your system and avoid uncomfortable and annoying smoke.
More and more books are using EVA hot melt adhesive for binding process. Almost all of them are used in large, medium, and small processing plants across the country. There will still be an upward trend in the future. This is because using this adhesive results in fast book publishing speed, short cycle time, aesthetically […]
Direct answer: The consumption of adhesive particles is relatively high, and 90% of the problem lies in four areas – excessive setting of adhesive amount, waste caused by improper temperature, equipment leakage, and mismatched selection of adhesive particles. After item by item investigation, most factories can reduce unit adhesive consumption by 15% -30% without sacrificing […]
The root cause of UV ink printing surface not sticking to hot melt adhesive isThe surface energy of the cured UV ink layer is extremely low (usually below 34 dynes), and the adhesive cannot wet and spreadIt can only stop on the surface to form a “false adhesion”, and when subjected to a slight force, […]
If you are a packaging manufacturer, you may want your box and carton sealing process to be efficient, effective, and worry free to keep your production line running. However, if the packaging hot melt adhesive fails to fully bond the corrugated paper substrate, attempting to identify the root cause of the problem may be frustrating […]
